The University of Pittsburgh offers a chance to study at one of the top universities in the Philippines, Ateneo de Manila University.

Located in Quezon City, Philippines, study abroad at Ateneo de Manila offers exchange programs for the Fall, Spring, and Year (Fall and Spring) terms.


Academic areas of study include: Anthropology, Architectural Studies, Asian Studies, Biology, Business Information Systems, Global Management, Human Resources, Supply Chain Management, Computer Science, Criminal Justice, Cultural Studies, East Asian Languages and Literature, Economics, Education, Engineering, English (including Literature, Writing, and Creative Writing), Geology and Planetary Science, Global Studies, History, Information Sciences, Intelligent Systems, Mathematics, Music, Political Science, Psychology, Religious Studies, Sociology, Statistics.

PROGRAM OVERVIEW

The Ateneo de Manila University is a private research university in Quezon City, Philippines. Founded in 1859 by the Society of Jesus, the Ateneo is the third-oldest university in the Philippines. Ateneo undergraduates follow a Catholic-rooted liberal arts curriculum throughout their programs in the Humanities, Social Sciences, Science and Engineering, or Business Management. The Commission on Higher Education has recognized its units in biology, physics, chemistry, mathematics, information technology, entrepreneurship education, English literature, philosophy, sociology, psychology, and business administration as Centers of Excellence while the communication, electronics engineering, environmental science, history, Filipino literature, and political science units have been declared Centers of Development. The Loyola Heights campus also hosts two chemistry research centers: Philippine Institute of Pure and Applied Chemistry (PIPAC) and National Chemistry Instrumentation Center (NCIC).

Each year Pitt sends up to 2 students per semester to this institution.  In addition to submitting an application to the link above, be sure to review Ateneo’s websiteregarding their application requirements for incoming exchange students.  A formal nomination from Pitt’s Study Abroad Office is necessary for you to be recognized as an exchange student, so be sure to turn in all required documents via the application link above in addition to Ateneo’s procedures

ACADEMICS

Exchange students are allowed to take a minimum of 12 credits (or “units” as they are known in the Philippines) and a maximum of 15 – 18 credits.  Most courses count as 3 American credits. Courses are taught in English and a proficiency in the English language is required for acceptance.

As part of the Ateneo de Manila core curriculum, accepted international students are required to take three courses under the Filipino for Non-Filipino Speakers (FNFS) program.
